About the Artist

Laura Cottrell

“Your profession is not what brings home your paycheck. Your profession is what you were put on earth to do with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling.”  —Vincent van Gogh

Laura Cottrell graduated from The Art Institute of Dallas with a degree in Visual Communications and worked as a graphic designer for over 15 years. Laura has always had a passion for drawing since she was old enough to hold a crayon. She is experienced in various editorial illustration mediums from graphite, markers, and colored pencils to gouache, acrylics, and watercolor. But her most practiced medium is soft pastels.

Laura has exhibited and won awards at the Pastel Society of the Southwest's National Juried Exhibition, State Fair of Texas, Winnsboro Center for the Arts, Forney Arts Council Top 40 Regional Juried Show, and the Mineola League of the Arts Annual Fine Art Juried Show. She was honored with the People's Choice Award at both the MOLTA 2014 and 2016 Fine Art Juried Show for her pastel artwork.

She is a member of the Pastel Society of the Southwest and the International Association of Pastel Societies.
